Performance Optimization for True Protection
True Protection by Jag is designed to provide maximum security with minimal system impact. However, certain configurations and environments may benefit from fine-tuning. This guide covers optimization strategies to ensure smooth performance alongside full protection.
Scan Performance Optimization
- Exclusion Lists: Exclude known-safe directories that contain many frequently changing files, such as build output folders, virtual machine images, and database data directories. Navigate to Settings > Exclusions to configure.
- Scan Priority: Adjust the scan thread priority under Settings > Performance > Scan Priority. Setting it to Low ensures scans run in the background without affecting other applications.
- Scheduled Scans: Schedule full scans during off-hours (overnight or during lunch breaks) to avoid impacting productive work time.
- SSD Optimization: True Protection automatically detects SSD storage and adjusts I/O patterns to reduce unnecessary writes and extend drive lifespan.
Real-Time Protection Tuning
- Smart Scanning: Enable Smart Scan Mode under Settings > Performance. This skips re-scanning files that have not changed since the last scan.
- File Size Limits: Set a maximum file size for real-time scanning. Files larger than the limit are scanned during scheduled scans instead. Default is 100 MB.
- Process Exclusions: Exclude trusted development tools, compilers, and database engines from real-time monitoring to prevent slowdowns during intensive operations.
System Resource Limits
- CPU Limit: Cap True Protection CPU usage at a specified percentage under Settings > Performance > Resource Limits. Default is 50% during scans.
- Memory Limit: Set maximum RAM usage for the scanning engine. Default is 512 MB.
- I/O Priority: Configure disk I/O priority to prevent scan operations from competing with your applications for disk access.
Performance Diagnostics
If you experience performance issues, navigate to Settings > Performance > Diagnostics and click Run Performance Test. This tool measures scan speed, memory usage, and CPU impact, then provides specific recommendations for your system. You can share the diagnostic report with support for further assistance.
