Resolving High CPU Usage

True Protection by Jag is designed to operate with minimal resource usage. If you notice high CPU consumption, several factors might be contributing. This guide helps you identify and resolve the issue.

When High CPU Is Normal

Elevated CPU usage is expected during:

  • Full system scans or scheduled scans
  • Threat definition updates downloading in the background
  • Initial post-installation scan of your entire system
  • Processing a large number of file changes (such as extracting a large archive)

Reducing CPU Usage

  • Adjust Scan Priority: Go to Settings > Scanner > Performance and set the scan priority to Low. This limits the scanner to using fewer system resources.
  • Add Exclusions: If specific applications or directories cause frequent scanning (such as development build folders), add them to the exclusion list at Settings > Exclusions.
  • Schedule Scans for Off-Peak Hours: Move scheduled scans to times when you are not actively using the computer.
  • Check for Scan Loops: In rare cases, a corrupted file can cause the scanner to re-examine it repeatedly. Check Tools > Scan Log for any file scanned an unusually high number of times.

Checking Resource Usage

Navigate to Settings > General > Resource Monitor to view a breakdown of CPU and memory usage by each True Protection module. This helps identify which specific component is consuming the most resources.
